Travels

I love travelling, and I am lucky to be able to do quite a lot of it, both private and through my job. Yesterday I was in Oslo for the day. Took the bus from Trondheim out to the airport, about 35 minutes usually, but yesterday it took at least one hour because of the traffick. I almost missed the train. Then the flight to Oslo took 55 minutes, airport train took 30 minutes and I was in Oslo. Met friends on the plane, and also met by brother in law by surprise at Oslo airport (it's a small world).

It can be exhausting to travel all this way for just one meeting, but I still love it, and always try to do the most out of it. When I came to Oslo yesterday I had some minutes before the meeting started and I found a café where I had coffee and German Sacher chocolate cake. Then I had more time after the meeting and I "was a tourist" in Oslo for a couple of hours. Did some books and cd shopping, bought two books by the British Carol Drinkwater (I have two books by her from before, where she write about her experiences with buying a house in Provence) and a book by one of my favorite Irish writers, Niall Williams, and an opera cd, Otello with Plácido Domingo. And I had dinner at a posh French restaurant, A Touch of France - in contrary to alot of other people I know I love going to restaurants alone. It reminds me of the two weeks I spent in New York alone two years ago.

Flying is perfect reading time. On the flight down I finished David Lodge's Home Truths, a wonderful and funny story about the conflict between the solitary activity of writing and the demand of the media circus. On my way home I started Hotel World by Ali Smith. This is a book I am reading with the Yahoo BookerPrize group and I must confess I had no great expectations. But only after the first pages I was hooked. What an amazing book! I am already halfway and can't wait to read the rest.

I will take you with me on alot of travels through my blogging as times come. But though I do travel "far away" alot, the very short travels are also important to me. A travel can also be a walk in the garden, a bus trip to town, a hike in the forest or mind travel through a book. Saturday Marta and I travelled in our own town, Trondheim. I have already written about our experiences at the art museum. Today I will share with you one of the pictures we took in our very beautiful town : Trondheim.

What a beautiful blue sky - Trondheim is enticing, Britt-Arnhild!
I wish I was as enthusiastic as you about flying. It's one of my least favourite activities - even if I do have lots of lovely books to read.
You certainly sound as if you made the best of your trip to Oslo!
