Celebrations

Marta's 9th birthday came during winter break here in Tondheim, so celebrations had to wait. Her best friend Elisabet was 9 two days before Marta, so the two girls have been busy for months making plans for the celebrations. And yesterday the Day finally was here.

We had booked the afternoon at a science center here in Trondheim. We have had a family membership at this place for years. We love to spend rainy Saturdays and Sundays there, and Marta has asked for some time if she could celebrate her birthday at the center.

15 girls came, and 2 1/2 hours really went by too quickly. The first post on the program was gift opening. The girls sat down in a circle and used a dancing bottle to decide which gifts to unwrap first. We three adults had an absolutely gorgeous time listening to all the unison oh's and wow's from the girls. Big or smal gifts didn't matter, Marta and Elisabet were thrilled no matter what!

Next came eating which the girls hardly had time to do. And then the rest of the afternoon was for playing at the center. Joy, joy, joy. Half an hour was also spent in the center kitchen helping the young man working there doing experiments - with making exploding bombs using water, c-vitamin pills and empty film boxes as a climax. I can't remember when I last had so much fun in one afternoon.
